My ART101 class has proved to be a learning experience. The first few weeks had me concentrating on understanding the values and smoothnesses of my graphite. Now, we've gotten into charcoal. At first, it was something I hated because I wasn't comfortable with it. I can certainly use the nasty, black, powder-y junk on bigger canvases. My teacher complimented me on having an almost instinctual knowledge of the charcoal values.
Now that it's nearing the end of the year, I've come to another point in life where a big, huge wall stands in my way with a ladder hanging over that's too short for me to grab onto. I have to work towards what I want and what I want is a B.A. of Arts with an emphasis on, well, art! (You may think that's redundant; however, it is a possible degree where all media is covered and understood.) The sucky thing is, is that I have to take a certain amount of foundation classes, then submit my portfolio to a panel of "judges" for the art department. They decide if I'm good enough to go after a degree.
My uncle made it clear that I should go after my education. I will. Once I get a job.
What does my degree consist of? Here you are:
The basic core classes of English, math, science, blah-blah-blah;
36 credits in electives (6 classes or 5, depending on the amount of credits awarded);
The foundation classes are:
Studio art requirements:
Art History requirements:
It might take me longer because the degree specifically says that 42/TOTAL of my credits must be in the higher division. I'm luck, because college offers a wide range of electives.
Wish me luck?
